What We Accept in Our Steel Yard and How to Prepare It:


When you visit Wise Services & Recycling, we want you to have the easiest transaction and most pleasant visit possible. Understanding how to sort your materials and how we grade your materials will ensure you get the most for your scrap metal and that your visit is quick and efficient. Here is a breakdown of what we do and do not accept in our steel yard. White Goods:

  • Household appliances such as washers, driers and dishwashers​
  • Refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioning units with compressors removed
  • ​Hot water heaters


Light Metal

  • Includes Tin and sheet metal
  • ​Fencing- must be free of wood or brush
  • Propane tanks- must have valves removed or have a hole cut into it
  • Steel wire rolled or bundled
  • Steel 1/8" thickness or less
  • ​Lawn Mowers- must have oil and gasoline removed


P&S (plate and structural steel)


  • Cut structural and plate scrap
  • ​​Thickness not less than ¼ inches
  • ​I-beams, angle iron, channel, square tubing, and steel plates, strips, bars and rounds
  • ​no larger than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide


Heavy Steel:

  • ​Includes most farm machinery 
  • ​Larger pieces of steel that need to be cut with the shear


​#1 Prepared Steel:

  • 5' long by 18" wide and 1/4" thick maximum
  • ​Car wheels (steel)
  • Rebar cut into 5' pieces or less
  • ​Black Iron Pipe less than 5" in diameter


Torched Steel:

  • ​Material so large it cannot be cut with the shear, it must be torched
  • Includes loaders, dozers, forklifts, most heavy equipment.


Vehicles:


Cast Iron

  • Water and sewage pipes, household radiators and furnaces, machines, and automotive parts such as cylinder heads and blocks, drums, and rotors.
